Although officers successfully located a vehicle believed to have been used in a hit-and-run downtown on Tuesday, police say the driver has yet to be located.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Macleod Trail SE around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a crash.
Police say the victim, a woman in her 20s, was standing on the northwest corner of the intersection waiting to cross when a silver-gray Gladiator SUV left the far left lane of Fifth Avenue, passed oncoming traffic, ran a red light and had entered an intersection when the woman stepped into the road to cross.
The pedestrian was struck by the front driver’s side of the SUV, which did not stop and continued eastbound on Fifth Avenue.
Investigators noted in a news release Wednesday that the SUV was traveling at a “high rate of speed.”
Medics took the pedestrian to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.

Officers located the vehicle several hours after the crash at an apartment complex in Bridgeland, in the 900 block of Center Avenue NE
Investigators are asking witnesses who have video footage of the downtown area, including the Edmonton Trail and Memorial Drive areas, on or around 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 to send it to police.
