Canadian Brooke Henderson won the ShopRite LPGA Classic, securing her 11th victory in the LPGA Tour.
The 24-year-old entered the final round in a ninth draw at 5-pointer before hitting 7-under 64 after Sunday’s first 18 holes to finish a draw in first place with American Lindsay Weaver-Wright. Smiths Falls, Ont., Then born, defeated Weaver-Wright with an eagle in the playoffs to secure the title.
This is Henderson’s first victory in 2022 and the first since winning the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open in April 2021.
“I felt like a long time since my 10th win and put in a little work,” Henderson told Green after the win. “Yesterday I actually thought I was too far behind when I entered today, and I just tried to go as low as possible and see what happened and here we are.”
Henderson, the most profitable golfer in Canadian history, won $ 262,500 with the win, marking a total of $ 882,786 this season and $ 9,070,013 in his career, according to the LPGA.
In 2016, the then 18-year-old became the second youngest player in the history of the LPGA Tour to win a major championship with her victory in the 2016 PGA Women’s Championship.
