A high-ranking officer has been demoted from his position in the Pacific Naval Forces after he made comments about a junior sailor’s appearance at Esquimalt Naval Base on Vancouver Island.
According to a statement from the Royal Canadian Navy, Timothy Blond has been relieved of his assignment as the Senior Petty Officer of Naval Forces Pacific after an investigation found evidence that the “inappropriate comments” were made during a social event at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt on 6 May.
“I no longer have confidence in CPO 1 Blonde’s ability to fulfill his leadership duties, maintain discipline and ensure the highest standards of ethics and values of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Armed Forces,” Vice Admiral Angus Topshee said in a written statement.
Topshey, the fleet commander, said that while the investigation did not support criminal charges, it showed evidence of unacceptable behavior and undermined Blond’s credibility as chief petty officer of the formation, the highest-ranking noncommissioned officer assignment in the Pacific Naval Forces.
Maritime Forces Pacific is responsible for maritime security in the North Pacific and employs approximately 4,000 military personnel and 2,000 civilians.
“A formation Chief Warrant Officer cannot perform his duties effectively without the trust of both formation leadership and Sailors,” Topshi said.
The blonde will continue to serve in the Royal Canadian Navy, but will no longer have a senior leadership role.
