Cardi B took to Twitter on Wednesday (June 15th) to respond to a Twitter thread addressing Lizzo’s recent text controversy.
A Twitter user named @FeministaJones wrote about rapper Bodak Yellow’s ability to use insulting words in a song without backlash, while Lizzo changed her lyrics to “Grrrls” after receiving criticism for using obscene insults in the opening verse.
“Cardi is weak and fair skin,” the Twitter user wrote. “She will often get away with more than other women, especially those who look like Lisa. This is the world we live in. People may get angry, but I don’t care, haha, Colorism and fat phobia shape SO MANY reactions and extensions of “favor”.

Cardi finished with his attitude to the situation with Lizo. “You do it every week SOMETHING I apologize for and some things I’ll tell you TO SKI DI – and personally If I were Lisa, I would say SMD [suck my di–]”

On Monday, Lizo revealed that she will release a new version of “Grrrls” after the reaction. “I was reminded that there is a harmful word in my new song ‘GRRRLS’,” she wrote in a statement posted on Twitter. “Let me be clear: I never want to promote degrading language. As a fat black woman in America, I have had many offensive words used against me, so I go beyond the power that words can have (whether intentionally or, in my case, unintentionally).
She continued: “I am proud to say that there is a new version of GRRRLS with a change in the text. This is the result of listening and taking action. As an influential artist, I am committed to being part of the change I have been waiting to see in the world. ”
