Former Manchester City and Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has confirmed his retirement after the Argentine said he could no longer continue to play after his father’s death last year.
Tevez has revealed that he has rejected offers from the United States to extend his trophy-winning but controversial career as he officially ended his time in football at the age of 38.
The Argentine, who won three Premier League titles, two Scudetti and a Champions League, last played for Boca Juniors before leaving his boys’ club last June.

Tevez said he stopped playing after “losing his number one fan” – his adopted father Segundo Raimundo, who died after complications from Covid-19 in February 2021.
“I retired, it’s confirmed,” he said, according to the Mundo Albiceleste website. “I was offered many things, including from the United States. But that’s all, I gave everything.
“It was very difficult to play last year, but I managed to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost number one fan. ‘
Tevez revealed earlier this year that he was struggling with his weight, admitting he ate and drank too much after leaving Boca.

The Argentine won consecutive titles in the Premier League and Champions League with United
His walk around the city sparked the famous “Welcome to Manchester” banner from City
“I eat empanada and drink fern and wine – whatever I want,” he said. “I take care of myself a little, but now I weigh three or four kilograms more. I get up a little late. I can’t imagine going back to training and running.
“I got up at 6 in the morning to go to training. I would be the first to arrive and the last to leave. But now I don’t have the strength to do it.
Tevez began his career at Boca Juniors before moving to Corinthians and then to West Ham, where he scored the winning goal on the last day of the season in 2007 to keep the Hammers in the Premier League.
The following year, he joined United after a legal dispute with West Ham over the player’s ownership.
Tevez was a cult hero at Old Trafford, as he was part of the team that won consecutive titles in the league and the Champions League in 2008.

His status at United quickly turned from a hero to a villain, however, when he left to join the city’s rival City, which led to the infamous “Welcome to Manchester” banner.
Tevez helped City win their first trophy in more than three decades when they lifted the FA Cup in 2011 and then the league title in 2012.
The wrestling frontman moved to Juventus in 2013 after four years at City, followed by periods in Boca and Shanghai Shenhua in China before returning to Argentina in 2018.
Tevez also won 76 games for Argentina, scoring 13 goals and finishing as runner-up in three Copa America editions.
