CBC News shakes leading roles in The national as it plans to launch a free 24-hour live streaming channel this fall.
The public operator’s news department announced several changes Thursday that will help introduce an ad-supported streaming channel. There is still no launch date for the platform.
Among the biggest changes in The national The evening show focuses on veteran journalist Adrien Arseno, who shares the role of host in recent years.
Arseno will sit in the chair from Monday to Thursday, and will also take the title of CBC News correspondent.
Meanwhile, her current co-host Andrew Chang will retire from the role in “The National” in August to begin work on an untitled new daily show on the streaming channel.
Ian Hanomansing will continue to host The National on Friday and Sunday, which includes the launch of a new weekly segment for interviews on the show in the fall. He will also become a regular host of Cross Country Checkup on CBC Radio and the CBC News Network.
The announcements come when the CBC says it is looking to strengthen its digital news platforms to “better serve Canada’s audiences on both television and digital platforms.”
The broadcaster says CBC News Network will continue to offer live news and breaking news through its CBC Gem subscription news channel, which reflects the cable and satellite version.
