Celebrating the platinum anniversary of Queen Elizabeth

The Queen’s historic reign will be celebrated in countries around the world, with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) leading a number of international events.

French President Emmanuel Macron will lead a ceremony of gratitude and recognition of the Queen in front of the Arc de Triomphe on Thursday, supported by a group from the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

On Saturday, the Red Arrows will make a flying trap at Le Touquet-Paris-Plage on the north coast of the English Channel, while the British Embassy in Paris exhibits a collection of portraits measuring almost 10 feet tall of the Queen at the Ambassador’s residence, including a portrait of Cecil Beaton Coronation from 1953 and portrait of David Bailey from 2014

Employees of the British Embassy in Switzerland are working with renowned light artist Gary Hofseter to project a platinum anniversary display on four Bernese Alps mountains, including the 13,015-foot-tall Eiger.

The lighthouses will be lit in the capitals of the British Commonwealth – a total of 54. The event in Wellington, New Zealand, will start from the steps to the view of Tangi Te Keo on Mount Victoria with a Maori prayer known as “Karakia”. The local people – mana whenua – will then light a torch from a lighthouse and rise to the observer, according to the New Zealand Defense Forces.

Lighthouses in the British Commonwealth and the Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom will light up at 21.15 local time. Pitcairn, Britain’s smallest overseas territory with only 35 inhabitants in the Pacific, will host a commemorative dinner tonight and will be the last place to light a lighthouse, nine hours behind the United Kingdom.

Fire trucks in Valparaiso and Santiago in Chile will be branded with the platinum anniversary emblem, while the British Embassy in Santiago will host its first street party to mark the occasion.

US-based FCDO staff will host a series of holiday events in Washington, New York, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Minneapolis.

British ambassadors and high-ranking commissioners around the world have nominated 70 of their favorite recipes in a special platinum anniversary cookbook, including many dishes served to the Queen on visits abroad.

In a statement issued by the FCDO, Foreign Minister Liz Truss said: “In an ever-changing and uncertain world, the Queen was a rock that offered wise advice to more than 170 heads of state and dedicated her life to promoting unity and social freedom.” to the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth is rightly recognized around the world during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, as it continues to touch the lives of millions of people beyond our shores. “
