Robert Godfrey, chief executive of the Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce, pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
He appeared in Charlottetown Provincial Court on Monday, where he was sentenced to three days in prison. He began to serve his sentence immediately.
Godfrey, 37, was also fined $ 1,000 and told to pay an additional $ 300 fee and lose his license for one year. He has no previous record.
The court heard that Godfrey’s vehicle was observed crossing the center line while he was driving in Stratford on May 7 at around 2 am
Godfrey told the court that he was deeply remorseful and embarrassed. He said it would not happen again.
“Incredibly disappointing”
“He notified members of the executive immediately after the incident when it happened,” House President Bill DeBlois told CBC News on Monday afternoon. “It’s obviously incredibly disappointing from our point of view.”
He added that Godfrey “made a terrible mistake, but took full responsibility for his actions. He himself will stand up and face the full consequences of this.”
Godfrey took over as chief executive of the chamber in September 2021, after spending seven years as executive director of the PEI Federation of Agriculture,
