Chelsea Cardno’s family says the body, found in a flooded farmland near Mission Creek on Friday night, has been identified as the missing woman from Kelowna.
Kelowna’s RCMP said Friday night that the body was found downstream from the site where Cardno was believed to have been swept away.
Although the deceased has not yet been identified at the time, Mounties said they have notified the Cardno family of the discovery and are offering support.
On Saturday morning, Cardno’s mother Diane posted on a Facebook page dedicated to finding the missing 31-year-old, confirming the death.
The disappearance of Cardno on June 14 led to intense search efforts by police, Central Okanagan for search and rescue, friends and even strangers.
Approximately 150 volunteers showed up last weekend to join a community search, and Cardno’s grieving mother thanked them for their efforts in the Facebook post.
“I must take this time to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support over the past 11 days,” she wrote. “To all who came out to help us search, the tireless hours spent through the bush, the hours of walking on Greenway, we did not leave a stone unturned. The community has come together to bring my sweet peas home and I will be eternally grateful. “
Cardno was last seen around 8 a.m. on the date of her disappearance when she went out for a walk with her dog JJ near the Greenway Mission.
In a Facebook post, Cardno’s mother said JJ was still unknown and asked the public to watch out for the German Shepherd.
She also asked for privacy as the family mourns her loss, and said details of Cardno’s celebration of life would be shared in the coming weeks.
