CHP employee shot during a traffic stop, taken to hospital in critical condition

Police are looking for a suspect who shot and killed a California traffic police officer during a traffic stop.

The shooting took place around 19:54 in block 4500 on Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The Los Angeles Fire Department took the badly injured officer to a nearby hospital.

The suspect fled the scene before additional officers arrived. However, the Los Angeles Police Department and the CHP went to a residential complex outside Haskel Avenue in Van Nice after receiving the registration number of the vehicle, which the police officer stopped during the shooting.

LAPD and CHP are likely to track a suspect to an apartment near Reseda and Van Nice 02:27

Upon arrival, they found a white Ford Fusion, matching the description of the car involved in the shooting.

Police have formulated a plan to confront the suspect, who they say is barricaded in the apartment complex. Upon entering, authorities found only a roommate who had been detained for questioning. Law enforcement officers evacuated the building but did not find any suspects inside.

They continued to search the area around the complex. It is unknown at this time whether the suspect has been detained.
