Christy Paul, host of CNN’s New Day weekend, will be leaving

Many changes have taken place on CNN since the merger of its parent company, WarnerMedia, with Discovery, but this is not something that many people expected.

Christy Paul, who has been a regular on CNN’s morning programs over the weekend for nearly nine years, is leaving the news, she said on Sunday morning. Paul has been with CNN and his brother HLN since 2003 and hosts New Day on Saturday and Sunday mornings with Victor Blackwell and more recently Boris Sanchez. Her Sunday appearance on CNN will be her last.

A rotating group of presenters is expected to fill New Day with Sanchez in the foreseeable future, according to a CNN spokesman.

CNN declined to comment on where Paul could go next, but she suggested on Sunday that she was leaving to be closer to her family and expected to be “on the air” in Ohio. “I’m part of the Big Resignation,” Paul said, noting that she informed CNN in January that she would leave. An announcement of her new job should come later this week, she said.

Among those who paid homage on air or online on Sunday morning were Blackwell, CNN’s “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter, and Bethany Crudel, CNN’s senior producer on New Day.

This morning is a bitter New Year’s Day. Today is the last day of @Christi_Paul in our show. She has been the heart of the weekend mornings for years. Get involved while we say goodbye!

Paul joined HLN in 2003 and was a regular presenter during the network’s daily schedule. During her time at CNN, she discovered her experience with domestic violence and wrote a book on “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” in 2012. Before joining HLN, Paul was a presenter, consumer reporter and meteorologist at stations in Arizona KNXV and KTVK .. Prior to moving to Phoenix, Christie was a presenter / reporter for KTVB in Boise, Idaho. She began her career as a sole proprietor, reporting, anchoring and photographing at WDTV in Clarksburg, WV.

Among other things, Paul is known for her unique sign, in which she urges viewers to “make good memories today.”
