Civil servants voted to support national strikes that would hit airports, ports, courts and other key infrastructure.
The UK’s largest civil servants’ union today voted in favor of a national strike after challenging a 2 per cent pay proposal by the government and planning to cut 91,000 jobs.
Union leaders said members relied on food banks and Universal Credit.
But ministers insisted they must balance the risk of causing higher inflation if wage increases are too generous.
The PCS union, which represents 182,000 public sector workers, voted at its national conference to formally vote for members over a strike that will cover the entire civil service later this year.
Mark Servotka, the union’s secretary general, said government officials had “kept the country running”
