Cold front could cause thunderstorms in the Chicago area late Wednesday – NBC Chicago

A cold front that sparked a tornado observation in southern Wisconsin could potentially trigger thunderstorms in the Chicago area late Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and some of those storms could become severe.

The tornado clock, which is in force for Kenosha County, will expire at 10 pm, according to the National Weather Service.

This watch was released when a cool front headed for the Chicago area late Wednesday and at night, and while thunderstorms are firing on that front, it remains unclear whether anyone will step up over heavy limits.

Any storms that do so could potentially cause harmful winds, little hail and even isolated tornadoes, according to the NWS and NBC 5 Storm Team.

The front is expected to reach DeCalb County at 10 pm and will continue to move northeast as midnight approaches.

Temperatures are expected to still be higher on Thursday, but lower temperatures are expected to finally remain in the area until Friday, although high temperatures are likely to remain until most in the 1980s.

Stay tuned with the NBC 5 and NBC 5 Storm Team app for all the latest details.
