Colin Kapernik is training with the Raiders as the door opens for a potential return to the NFL

Colin Kapernik, who has not played in the NFL since New Year 2017, has taken a step towards returning to football. He is training for the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday, according to ESPN and confirmed by CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson. The training is being held in a team with head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, who is expected to attend, according to The MMQB.

The 34-year-old has not worked for any team or visited any team since the end of the 2016 season. has ended his career. However, things may be about to change.

Kaepernick made 28-30 as starters during his stay in the San Francisco 49ers, throwing 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in 69 career games. He led the 49ers to the Super Bowl XLVII to end the 2012 season and scored 12-4 in 2013, but San Francisco has struggled in its last three seasons there, including 1-10 in its starts during its last campaign. in 2016

However, some of the statistics for his career are impressive. Only 1.77% of Kaepernick’s passes were intercepted, the fifth best in NFL history among those who have tried at least 1,500 career passes. He also rushed 181 yards in a 2013 playoff win against the Green Bay Packers, still the most quarterback in a post-season game.

Kaepernick has been busy this off-season to prove to the football world that he still has tires left, and said he is ready to be a substitute. Most recently, he was the honorary captain of the University of Michigan’s spring game and had a public half-throwing session that aired on television. Cap also trained with Tyler Lockett, a broadcaster for the Seattle Seahawks, and turned to head coach Pete Carroll to assess Seattle’s interest in attracting him.

Asked what he hopes to achieve with the public training in Michigan, Kapernik said he was just looking for a chance.

“Shot,” Capernicus replied. “It’s just a chance, an opportunity. You know, a lot of what we’ve heard is, “Oh, you haven’t played in five years, can you still play?” Well, I had to go out, that’s part of the reason we do all the training in public, we make it public.

“(I) am grateful that this is an opportunity that can lead to the next step, and I hope to open this door so that I can escape through it.”

The Raiders are not one of the most needy teams in the NFL. Derek Carr signed a huge three-year extension worth $ 121.5 million during this off-season, and Vegas also signed Nick Mulens, traded for Jarrett Steadham and took Chase Garbers to Cal as an undefeated free agent. Still, the Raiders are obviously interested in adding a veteran. One training session does not guarantee that the Raiders will sign Kaepernick, but this is a very big development for a potential return to the NFL.
