Two are believed to have died at a construction site in St. Paul after a trench collapsed. Authorities remain on the scene and continue the active rescue investigation.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (FOX 9) – Two construction workers in St. Paul are believed to be dead after a ditch collapsed on a construction site on Friday, authorities said.

Authorities responded to a block of 700 on Mount Curve in St. Paul’s Highland Park shortly before 3 p.m. Friday. Two people were trapped after the trench collapsed, with first aid workers working to remove some of the dirt and dirt that filled the trench.

SkyFOX 9 was located above a construction site in St. Paul’s, where first aid workers were working to find two trapped workers. They are supposed to be dead.

St. Paul’s Assistant Fire Chief Matt Simpson told FOX 9 that too much time had passed to rescue the individuals and it was now a recovery effort.

“Due to the time that has elapsed to ensure the safety and security of the trench so that we can enter, to make the crews enter and have no further collapse or injury – and trauma to the responders – this has unfortunately led to recovery in this “There are two people who died in this accident, unfortunately,” said Simpson. “Due to the size of the stones and the amount of soil that was in the trench, this would probably cause significant injuries as well as asphyxia.”

A man at the scene initially tried to enter the trench, but then realized it was not an endeavor, so he jumped out of the hole and called 911, Simpson said.

The two buried in the trench appear to have been working on drainage at the construction site, Simpson said. City documents show that the construction of a residential building on Mount Curve Boulevard is underway.

Authorities did not provide information on the people in the collapsed trench.

Rescuers remained active Friday night.
