Commission announces on 6 January that the first prime time hearing will include unprecedented material and testimony

The council did not list witnesses to the hearing, but said further details would be announced next week.

“The Commission will present unprecedented documents documenting January 6, testify, review additional hearings, and provide the American people with a summary of their findings on coordinated, multi-stage efforts to undo the 2020 presidential election and prevent of the transfer of power, “the committee said.

CNN previously reported that the committee is expected to hold its first hearing that day and it will be held in prime time.

Thursday’s announcement was the commission’s first official announcement of its schedule for upcoming hearings, and the panel has kept its list of potential witnesses under very close scrutiny in recent weeks.

The first hearing will be a broad overview of the commission’s 10-month investigation and will pave the way for the next hearings, which are expected to cover specific topics or topics, CNN sources said.

While the hearings are in progress and evolving, sources said, the presentations are likely to include videos from January 6, as well as some of the commission’s nearly 1,000 closed-door interviews. This can help the commission share more testimony, as well as deal with potentially disobedient witnesses.

CNN also said Thursday that the commission has begun addressing witnesses, informing them of the group’s desire to appear as part of the upcoming public hearings, which begin later this month.

CNN has learned that two people directly linked to former Vice President Mike Pence are among those who have received invitations to participate. Former Pence Chief Counsel Greg Jacob and former Federal Judge J. Michael Lutig received information from the commission about his possible testimony.

In addition to Lutig and Jacob, CNN has learned that former Pence chief of staff Mark Short is expected to testify.

All three men have already been questioned in private by commission investigators. In some cases, their testimony has already been used by the commission as part of court documents and requests to call other potential witnesses in their investigation.
