Concluded: Northeastern criminals were put behind bars in April 2022

Sick sexual predators, drug gangs and abusers are among the criminals who will be imprisoned in April.

A drunk driver who killed his childhood friend and a drunk driver who veered off a bridge and crashed into the highway below – before blaming his partner who lost consciousness in the vehicle – are among those who will be arrested for last month.

A drug gang found with £ 600,000 worth of heroin, as well as £ 18,000 in cash and six luxury cars, was also convicted this month after one of the largest drug arrests in the Northeast.

These are the criminals who were imprisoned in April.

George MacDonald

George MacDonald was already behind bars when he appeared in court via video link from HMP Northumberland to be convicted of contempt of court. The 24-year-old appeared in a Newcastle court on February 16, where he was sentenced to 16 months in prison for assault, causing actual bodily harm and simple assault.

But after sentencing MacDonald of Castle Terrace, Ashington, he jumped over the dock and fled the courtroom. He then attacked security officers before eventually being detained, but managed to grab an officer by the neck in the process.

MacDonald received a nine-month prison sentence, which will expire on his 16-month sentence in February.

Hugh Raymond Holmes

Hugh Raymond Holmes caused a woman to be in critical condition after the car she was driving fell off a bridge and crashed into the A1 motorway below.

Emergency services were called to J61 Bowburn Exchange office after the incident on the morning of January 21. A woman in her mid-40s was seriously injured and taken by plane to hospital and left in critical condition.

The court heard that witnesses saw the passenger trying to get out of the vehicle shortly before the accident. The court also heard that Holmes refused to take a breath test after the incident, telling a police officer to “get out”.

Holmes, who had a torn forehead, was arrested and later made a prepared statement to the police, blaming his passenger, claiming she was the driver. Tudhoe Moor’s Holmes, Spennymoor, is now in prison for 32 months after appearing in Durham Crown court.

The judge also banned him from driving for a total of 343 weeks and he has to take an extended test.

Elvis Pietri, 22, and Iraklis Poimenidis, 23, have been described as “predators roaming their prey” in the moments before they sexually assaulted a woman on the streets of Sunderland.

In the early hours of August 8, 2020, they settled in with a drunken woman who was seen slipping in front of a bar earlier in the evening. CCTV filmed the two students with the woman in front of Sunderland Railway Station before kissing her and then “humiliating and humiliating” her by sexually assaulting her on the street.

The couple is now in jail and will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life after appearing in a Newcastle court earlier this month.

Pietri from Lindhurst Road, Wood Green, London, was in prison for 30 months. And Poimenidis of Hilton Road, Sunderland, was in prison for 34 months.

Liam Lorraine

Liam Lorraine bombarded her partner with 183 messages and 105 calls in just six hours after she dumped him. Lorraine, who has a history of domestic crimes against his girlfriends, cannot accept that the victim ended their relationship over the Easter weekend, so he instead harasses her with messages and phone calls.

The court found that the woman did not respond to the 26-year-old, who at the time was on probation for sending malicious messages to another ex-partner. But the foolish move cost Lorraine, from Cartmel Grove in Saltwell, Gateshead, his freedom after he was arrested and found guilty of one charge of harassment.

As he was on probation and had recently been released from prison for domestic violence, Deputy District Judge Andrew Teit jailed him for 12 weeks. The court heard that Lorraine was extremely sorry and had contacted the victim only to seek “clarity”, as he believed that a member of her family had sent the initial message to part with him.

Jack Bolton

Serial pedophile Jack Bolton is back behind bars for ruining another young boy’s life by sexually abusing him.

The perverted former male brigade officer has a disgusting history of sexual assault on male children dating back to the 1970s and was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2011 for 33 crimes of indecent assault. The 79-year-old pervert from Yetholm Road, Dunston, Gateshead, has admitted to harassing a boy with make-up by offering to drive his car and bringing him to his knees about 30 years ago.

The victim, who is now an adult, boldly stepped forward after keeping the abuse to himself and said it had had a devastating impact on his life. The Newcastle court heard the victim recall how Bolton sold eggs and drove him away.

Bolton pleaded guilty to indecent assault on the victim on the grounds that it had occurred no more than five times. He also admitted obscenity with a child on the grounds that it had happened no more than ten times. He was sentenced to three years and four months.

Mark Heron

Pervert Mark Heron has been in prison for nine years for raping a drunken teenager.

The victim, who was under 16, fell asleep due to a state of intoxication and turned to find Mark Heron on her. Heron, who fled during the trial against him in a “cowardly” act, was found guilty of raping the teenage girl by the jury.

The Newcastle court heard the 45-year-old man, who still claims innocence, left his victim to live in fear. The court heard the victim approach and found that Heron had taken off her clothes and was on top.

Anne Richardson, accused, said: “Even though she had fallen asleep with leggings, she realized that they were no longer dressed and her panties were up to her ankles.

“The defendant wore a T-shirt, but he was not wearing pants, he had one hand on her mouth and the other on her waist while having sex with her. She noticed that there was a chair blocking the door leading. When she found out what was happening, she told the defendant “No” and he told her “Shhhh, it’s okay.”

Heron of Arcot Avenue, Cramlington, Northumberland, who has a previous conviction for indecently exposing a “group of young women”, was told he had to serve at least two-thirds of his nine-year sentence. He was given an additional four weeks for not surrendering after being absent from the trial. Heron will also have to sign the register of sex offenders for life and has been given an indefinite warrant.

Jeffrey Maine

Jeffrey Maine, a health and safety officer at the University of Durham, had a collection of illegal photos and films of his personal computer equipment and telephone that he shared online. The Crown Court in Newcastle has heard that his disgusting collection includes images of adults having sex with animals.

The 58-year-old is now losing his job at the university when his shocking secret life was revealed. Prosecutor Jane Woo said judicial police raided Maine’s home in August last year, and he immediately admitted what he had done.

Maine, without a fixed address, admitted to distributing obscene images, voyeurism, possession of extreme pornography, possession of banned images of children and three charges of making obscene images of children in connection with more than 400 illegal photographs and films, in all categories .

Judge Robert Adams sentenced him to two years and eight months behind bars. Maine must also sign the register of sex offenders and abide by a ten-year order to prevent sexual injuries.

Michael Nicholas has recorded himself shouting “nonch” and “weed” at a witness in a courthouse.

Nicholas, 24, of Glasgow Road in Jarrow, shouted at the victim, who was in a witness room at the South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court. He used his mobile phone to record what he was doing, which is forbidden in court buildings, as he peered out the window of the inner door of the witness’s room.

Registrar Christopher Rose sentenced him to seven months behind bars with a five-year restraining order and told him: “Appellants in any criminal case must be able to go to court and testify freely and free of charge.”

Ross Ray

This thug took off his partner’s shoes so he could hit her with them and used a stunning gun on her because he found it funny.

Ross Ray had been in a relationship with the woman for two years when he subjected her to frightening violence after she lost her temper because she could not transfer some photos to a new phone. The Newcastle Crown Court heard that he shouted for her to take off her shoes, then forcibly took them off and hit her on the head with them. Then he punched, kicked, and put his arm around her neck, trying to strangle her.

She later revealed that he had attacked her before, stunning her …
