Conservatives point to higher results with Poilievre than Charest as leader

A federal Conservative party led by Pierre Poillievre would pull votes from the People’s Party of Canada more successfully than one led by Jean Charest, a Mainstreet survey shows.

The poll asked how people would vote in a federal election if Poilievre or Charest were Conservative leader.

“Basically, he’s getting a large chunk of the People’s Party vote,” said Mainstreet executive director Kitto Maggi. “His move to the right really brings that PPC vote to the Conservative Party – it’s probably just hugely ineffective.”
