Cristiano Ronaldo will hold talks with Manchester United this week as he tries to clarify his future amid doubts over whether he will stay at Old Trafford this season.
The 37-year-old flew to the UK on Monday evening after missing United’s pre-season trip to Thailand and Australia due to a family issue, with manager Erik ten Hag expected to meet him in the coming days. The Ten Hag are keen to include Ronaldo in their plans as soon as possible, although Ronaldo’s representatives are understood to be trying to find him a new club after he made it clear he wants to play in the Champions League this season.
Chelsea have indicated they are no longer interested in signing Ronaldo after holding talks earlier this month, while Bayern Munich are also understood to have rejected the chance to complete a deal for a player who scored 24 goals in 38 appearances for United last season. Atletico Madrid have also shown an interest in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, but must first sell players before considering a return to the Spanish capital.
With less than a fortnight to go before Brighton visit Old Trafford on August 7 for the season opener, Ten Haag recently said he had no concerns about Ronaldo’s fitness.
“We all know Ronaldo is a top professional and he will be fit, that’s my last concern,” he insisted.
