8:10 a.m. — Rain and storm chances decrease Friday before increasing Friday night into Saturday

In what has been a challenging week for precipitation forecasts, the nighttime simulations leave us with a few impressions:

  • While a few storms may develop this afternoon and evening due to the high humidity – especially south of Interstate 66, many areas may remain dry.
  • A pop-up shower or storm isn’t set for Friday, but most of that day could also be dry; the chance of showers and storms will increase in the evening and overnight.
  • The forecast for Saturday remains poor with cloud and rain likely to continue for most of the day.

Original forecast from 5am

A somewhat subjective assessment of the time of day on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10: Storms are likely a threat; high humidity will make you sweat.

  • Today: Mostly cloudy with showers and storms, very humid. Height: 83 to 87.
  • Tonight: Wet with scattered showers and storms. Low: 67 to 73.
  • tomorrow: Steamy, with possible showers and storms. Height: 84 to 88.

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity! Highs in the 80s aren’t eye-catching, but humidity is oppressive over the next two days. The storms are definitely “whack a mole” style, popping up here and there. A slow moving cool front finally comes to the rescue over the weekend clearing us out and drying us out for Sunday and Monday.

Today (Thursday): Risks of rain or thunderstorms persist throughout the day, but most are short-lived and sporadic, making the radar app a great companion. Despite the clouds, highs still climb into the mid-80s. The humidity is like being in a sauna with dew points in the mid 70’s. The breeze is minimal. Trust: Medium-high

Tonight: Clouds linger overnight, but showers and storms should taper off by late evening. Winds are mostly calm and lows stay in the upper 60s to 70s. Trust: Medium-high

Tomorrow (Friday): Most of the stronger storms should be well south of the area, but high humidity keeps the threat of pop-up showers and storms at bay, especially in the afternoon and evening. Highs reach the mid-80s and the breeze is still lacking. Trust: Medium-high

Tomorrow night: A cold front may finally begin creeping into the area and this could serve to produce numerous storms with the potential for some notable rain. Showers keep humidity painfully high as lows remain in the upper 60s to 70s. Confidence: Medium

Saturday is a transition day, hopefully, as drier air should begin to bleed into the area. Given how slowly this is likely to happen, it’s best to just plan for further chances of scattered showers/storms throughout the day. With any luck there should be enough breaks to get out and about some time in the afternoon. Highs are mostly in the 80s. Skies finally clear overnight with lows in the low to mid 60s. Confidence: Medium

Super summer weather is settling in Sunday and Monday with low humidity and sunny skies. We are in the low 80s for highs and the low to mid 60s for lows will feel great. Confidence: Medium
