Dave Chapel attacked: Suspect now faces 4 counts of crime after prosecutor dismisses serious crime prosecution

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – An armed man accused of assaulting Dave Chapel on the Hollywood Bowl stage is now facing several charges of misconduct related to the incident.

Earlier on Thursday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced that 23-year-old Isaiah Lee would not be charged with a crime and referred the case to the Los Angeles Attorney, who only deals with crimes.

Lee is charged with battery, possession of a weapon with intent to attack and two charges related to the interference of a contractor.

“This alleged attack must have consequences,” Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Foyer said in a video message. “My office takes public safety very seriously and we will vigorously pursue this case.

Lee was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon shortly after dealing with the comedian on Tuesday night. He was detained on $ 30,000 bail. It is unclear what motivated Lee to flee the stage.

District attorneys found that while there was criminal conduct, “the evidence as presented does not constitute criminal conduct.”

Police said Lee was armed with a spear-knife spear when he ran onto the scene and collided with Chappelle. The video of the witness shows Chapel falling backwards, but he managed to free himself quickly while the guards rushed to grab the attacker.

According to ABC News sources, Los Angeles County prosecutors have chosen not to continue with criminal charges because Lee did not brandish a knife.

He is reported to have had it in a bag.

Exclusive footage from AIR7 HD filmed the attacker in a wheelchair as he was loaded into an ambulance to be taken to hospital for unspecified injuries.

“The replica of the pistol, which contained a knife blade, was found and reserved as evidence,” a police statement said.

A Chappelle spokesman issued a statement Wednesday calling the incident “pathetic and disturbing”, but said he refused to let it overshadow the Hollywood Bowl’s record performance.

She noted that the comedian continued his show and worked with Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock to help calm the crowd with humor. He assisted in the police investigation of the incident.

A statement from spokesman Carla Sims read:

“Dave Chapel celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl. This show connects Chappelle with Monty Python for every comedian’s headline in the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70,000 fans of various backgrounds during the first Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival, and he refuses to let last night’s incident overshadow the magic of this historic moment. “

“As pathetic and disturbing as the incident was, Chappelle continued with the show. Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humor before Chappelle introduced the latter and included musical guests for the evening, hip-hop artists Yassin Bay and Talib Kveli, also known as Black Star, who performed music from their new album – the first in nearly 24 years – which was released on Luminary. Other special comedy guests last night were Earthquake, Leslie Jones, Jeff Ross, Sebastian, John Stewart and Michelle Wolfe. “

A Netflix spokesman also issued a brief statement: “We care deeply about the safety of the creators and strongly support the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.”

The comedian was not injured in the attack and later joked with the audience about it.

Comedian Chris Rock, who performed earlier in the night, took to the stage with Chappelle moments after the attack and joked, “Was that Will Smith?”
