Dave Chapel starred in the Hollywood Bowl show

LOS ANGELIS –

Comedian Dave Chapel was smashed during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night. The guards chased and overpowered the attacker, and Chapel managed to continue his performance while the man was taken away by ambulance.

The attacker was carrying a spear of a pistol with a knife blade inside, authorities said.

Isaiah Lee, 23, has been arrested and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, said police officer Alba Mendes, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Lee was treated by medical staff for an unspecified injury and was placed in the Hollywood Division Jail at 3:36 a.m. Wednesday and held in custody instead of a $ 30,000 bail, Mendes said. It was not immediately clear whether he had hired a lawyer.

Mendes said “a famous comedian played” when Lee jumped on stage, tackled the celebrity and pulled out a replica of a pistol containing a knife blade. Mendes said the department did not name the celebrity because it did not confirm the names of the victims.

Chappelle was performing her stand-up routine in the amphitheater as part of the Netflix Is a Joke festival when the man rushed on stage and collided with him. Jamie Fox was on the wings of the stage and Chappelle thanked him for responding to the attack. Chris Rock was also there and jokingly asked if the attacker was Will Smith.

Chappelle was attacked while completing a routine about how comedians need to worry more about their personal safety after this year’s Oscars, where Oscar-winning actor hit Rock live on television in response to a joke about his wife.

“The comedian had literally just said that now there is more security because of all the noise from his jokes about the trance community,” tweeted Buzzfeed News reporter Briana Sachs, who attended the show. She tweeted that “while the attacker was beaten,” Chapel “joked that he was probably a trans man.”

The show was about to end when the man jumped on stage and ran to Chapelle, form knocking him to the ground. The comedian had just said that he now had more security because of all the noise from his jokes about the trance community.
