David Purdue accuses Stacey Abrams of “humiliating” her race

David Purdue, a former Republican senator running for governor of Georgia, accused Democratic nominee for governor Stacy Abrams of “humiliating his own race” on Monday.

Purdue, who lags behind incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp in polls, was at a stop at the Dunwoody campaign when he mentioned the Abrams race as he attacked the Democratic nominee.

He also said that Abrams, who is Black, must “return to where she came from,” according to the Washington Post.

“Did you see what Stacey said this weekend?” Purdue asked his supporters from one scene. “She said Georgia was the worst place to live in the country. Hey, she ‘s not from here. Let her go back to where she came from. She doesn’t like it here. “

Abrams has called Georgia home for most of his life. She moved to Georgia while in high school after being born in Wisconsin and raised in Mississippi. She graduated from Spellman College in Atlanta and served on the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017.

Perdue cites Abrams’ comments at a fundraising dinner on Saturday. She called Georgia “the worst state in the country to live in.”

“I’m tired of hearing that we’re the best state in the country to do business when we’re the worst state in the country to live in,” Abrams said.

She gave her country a stunning nickname due to poor mental health resources, maternal mortality, rising levels of imprisonment and falling wages.

“Let me contextualize,” she said, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. “When you are number 48 in mental health, when we are number 1 in maternal mortality, when you have a rise in the number of prisons and wages are falling, then you are not the number one place to live.”

Perdue also referred to Abrams’ comments during her participation in 2018.

“When she said to black farmers, ‘You don’t have to be on the farm,’ and she said to black workers in hospitality and all that, ‘You don’t have to be,’ she’s humiliating her own race when it comes to that,” she said. he.

Former Georgia Sen. David Purdue also told Stacey Abrams to “go back to where she came from.”

“It simply came to our notice then. It should never be considered material for the governor of any state, much less our state – where he hates to live. “

Abrams has promised to create many different job opportunities for Georgians if elected.

“People don’t have to farm or run a hotel in Georgia to make a living,” she said in 2018, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Why not create renewable energy jobs?”

Purdue’s opponent, Kemp, also responded to Abrams’ comments that Georgia was the worst state.

“Stacey Abrams may think differently, but I believe Georgia is the best state to live, work and raise a family,” the governor wrote on Twitter late Saturday.

Kemp, who defeated Abrams in a highly contested gubernatorial race in 2018, is expected to easily defeat Purdue in Tuesday’s primary election and currently has a steady lead over Abrams.
