Cardinal’s successor DeAndre Hopkins will not play the first six games of the regular season. Hopkins tested positive for drugs to improve effectiveness and reiterated a statement from his brand manager that he had no idea how it happened.

“In my 10-year career, I have never given a positive test for the use of drugs to increase effectiveness,” Hopkins wrote on social media. “I was confused and shocked to learn that my test came back in November with trace elements from a banned substance.

“I’m very careful about what I put into my body and I’ve always used a holistic approach, so I’m working with my team to find out how this could have happened. But even if I was careful, I obviously wasn’t careful enough. I apologize to the Cardinals fans, to my teammates and to the entire Cardinals organization. I never want to disappoint my team.

“I am just going to get to the bottom of it. As soon as I have more information, I will share it. “

Few players admit to knowingly using PEDs after being captured, so Hopkins’ statement is not surprising. What will be surprising is if he follows more information. According to his statement, he tested positive in November, so he already has five months to reach the bottom.

Hopkins has missed just two games in his entire career last season. In 2021, he played three games with a hamstring injury and the last five games, including the post-season game, with a knee injury.

He will now miss at least six games in 2022.
