While tourists and locals are enjoying the sunshine by Okanagan Lake, the shoreline along the city park is littered with debris.

A Kelowna resident who has lived in the area for five years says she’s never seen it this bad.

“Of course it’s from the far end of the back to the bridge, but it’s pretty bad all the way down and absolutely disgusting up to the bridge,” the resident said.

Rotary Beach is also reported to be littered with debris.

The British Columbia River Prediction Center has issued a flood warning for Monday, July 4 for Mission Creek. Okanagan Lake levels have also risen since the last high tide in mid-June.

After a local emergency on June 14 due to isolated flooding along Mission Creek, emergency officials asked the public to let debris wash ashore until the water level receded, as this helps prevent further erosion on the shore.

Okanagan Lake sits just above full pool at 342,582 meters. The full pool is 342.48 meters.
