President Joe Biden’s age is beginning to weigh on the minds of more Democrats as the 2024 by-elections approach.

Democratic heavyweights like David Axelrod, chief strategist for President Barack Obama, are alarmed at what could happen if 79-year-old Biden chooses to run for president again in 2024. Biden is already facing harsh criticism for blunders and misconceptions. which many attribute to age, and he will turn 86 at the end of his second term.

“The presidency is a monstrously taxable job, and the absolute reality is that the president will be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of the second term, and that would be a major problem,” Axelrod told the New York Times.

Many Democrats are behind Axelrod, grateful for Biden’s defeat of former President Donald Trump in 2020, but want a younger leadership in 2024.

“Democrats need fresh, bold leadership for the 2024 presidential race. This cannot be Biden,” a lawyer and a member of the Democratic National Committee told the NYT.

“I need the equivalent of Ron DeSantis, a Democrat, but not a 70- or 80-year-old, a younger man,” Alex Vishivanuk, 33, told the NYT. “Someone who knows what worked for you in 1980 will not work for you in 2022 or 2024.

DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida, is 43 years old.

Biden’s polls also do not help his case, as the president’s approval rating continues to reach new lows.

Some Democratic stars already seem to be breaking up with Biden before the midterm elections and 2024. D-NY lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declined to say she would vote for president in 2024 on Sunday.

“You know, if the president chooses to run again in 2024, I mean, first of all, I’m focused on winning that majority right now and keeping the majority this year in 2022,” Ocasio-Cortez said. in front of CNN. “So, we will cross this bridge when we get to it… I think if the president has a vision and that is certainly something we are certainly ready to have fun and explore when the time comes.”

CNN presenter Dana Bash then intervened, saying, “That’s not yes.”

“You know, I think we should approve when we get to him,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “I believe the president is doing a very good job so far. And, you know, do I have to run again? I think I’m, you know, I think we’re going to look at it. “
