COPENHAGEN – Denmark is considering providing vaccines produced by Bavarian Nordic for close contact with monkey pox, the Danish health authority told Reuters on Wednesday.
“The Danish health service is investigating whether people who have been in close contact with a person infected with monkeypox should be offered a vaccine,” an e-mail told Reuters.
The statement was clarified in a report by public operator DR on Tuesday, according to which authorities have already decided to provide the vaccine to close contacts.

It was not immediately clear whether Denmark had the vaccine in stock or whether the authorities would have to provide it.
The Ministry of Health, which will eventually decide whether to buy the vaccine, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
There are more than 100 suspected or confirmed cases of monkeypox in Europe and North America – a disease common in West and Central Africa – according to the World Health Organization.
Denmark has registered two cases of monkeypox infection during the current epidemic, both involving travel to Spain. The first case was traveling to Gran Canaria. (Report by Nikolai Skidesgaard; edited by Bill Bercrot and Jason Neely)
