A police officer shooting in Denver, Colorado has left the suspect and several others critically injured.
The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. local time in the 2000 block of Larimer St., near 20th St.
In a brief initial update, Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said officers were in the area as crowds from the bars spilled out onto the streets around closing time.
Officers’ attention was drawn to a disturbance involving an armed group, they proceeded to the location and confronted the armed group, he said.

Because the armed group “posed a significant threat,” the officers threw away their weapons and the group went down, Thomas said.
The staff immediately began to provide assistance. At that time, they became aware of other individuals in the crowd who were injured as a result of the incident, he explained.
Several ambulances were called to treat the injured and transport them to the hospital.
No employees were injured, the department said on Twitter.
