Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., Spokeswoman Christina Pushaw condemned CNN presenter Bill Weir for mocking the Florida government for not imposing COVID-19 vaccines on children under the age of five.

On Wednesday, the CNN presenter and chief climate correspondent made some editorials on Twitter in an attempt to confuse Florida lawmakers’ decision not to pre-order COVID-19 vaccines for very young children, while other states did.

Weir tweeted: “49 states have pre-ordered COVID vaccines for children under 5, so they will be ready as soon as they are FDA approved. Guess which state he didn’t make. “

Weir later linked to an article by the Miami Herald, which reported that “Florida missed Tuesday’s deadline to request delivery of COVID-19 pediatric vaccines for children under 5, ensuring delayed access for parents across the state, according to two U.S. governments sources. “

The Florida government has been the subject of negative headlines about its COVID-19 policies.

The article also states that “all 49 other states have pre-ordered” vaccines and that Florida hospitals and health centers “will not have access during this time and will remain without supplies until Florida orders.”

A DeSantis spokesman responded with a crippling response to Weir’s tweet. – The state in which everyone is moving? Pushaw asked, referring to the reality that despite media attacks, Florida is one of the country’s hotspots for internal migration.

The state also broke tourism records in 2021. DeSantis said in February that Florida received 7% more visitors in the fourth quarter of 2021 than in the fourth quarter of 2019, before the pandemic.

Weir’s original remark seemed to have a slight veil of contempt for the state, as the media often negatively covered Governor DeSantis’s blockade and unrestricted approach to tackling COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Elsewhere in the Twitter thread, Pushaw withdrew a little more, according to Weir. In response to a user’s comment, they did not understand why parents would vaccinate children who either had mild symptoms of COVID-19 or were “asymptomatic,” Pushou said, @FLSurgeonGen’s Guide [Florida’s Surgeon General] I recommend against! “

The article, which Weir initially shared, included a quote from Florida Department of Health spokesman Jeremy Redfern, who explained that “we chose not to participate in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine when the department does not recommend it for all children.” Redfern added a context that doctors in Florida are not looking for these vaccines.
