Deshaun Watson’s decision could be weeks away

The three-day hearing in Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson’s case has ended. So when will Judge Sue L. Robinson issue a decision?

According to multiple reports, she has asked both sides to submit written submissions in support of their respective positions by Monday, July 11. At this point, she will have everything she needs to make a decision.

When it does, it will generate a written document, possibly 20 pages or more in length. He will make findings of fact that will be binding on the appeals process. It will then apply the Personal Conduct Policy and any other relevant considerations to those facts to make its decision.

Our guess (and it’s just a guess) is that the decision will come by Monday, July 25th. Then the appeals process will potentially unfold — unless she decides to impose no discipline.

Again, its findings of fact will be binding on the appeals process. These findings will also greatly assist the media and fans in understanding the reasoning behind the final decision.

We fully expect Judge Robinson’s written decision to be published. When it comes to players, there is always transparency. If Watson is not punished too harshly or not at all, the league must hope that Judge Robinson will provide a clear and convincing explanation for the outcome. The league would also have to publish its decision for all to see, not sweep it under the rug like it did with the commanders situation.
