Donald Trump: “No law can cure the effects of a broken home”

Former President Donald Trump is speaking at a congress of the National Weapons Association (NRA) in Texas following a mass shooting at a school in the same state that killed 19 children and two teachers.

In his speech, Mr Trump cited “broken homes” and “bad behavior” at school – suggesting that these were the causes of mass shootings such as the Uwalde tragedy on Tuesday.

The largest arms lobby in the United States continued with Friday’s event despite criticism.

Mr Trump also said: “If the United States has $ 40 billion to send to Ukraine, we need to be able to do whatever it takes to keep our children safe at home.”

So far, investigators have not shed light on the Texas shooter’s motives for the attack.

The Republican read the names of the 21 people killed at Rob Elementary School, and a bell rang after each.

In a long address to the convention, Mr Trump said: “It is clear that we need to make it much easier to reduce violent and mental disorders in psychiatric institutions.

“Our school disciplinary systems, instead of justifying themselves and continuing to turn a blind eye, must confront misconduct directly and quickly.

He continued: “No law can cure the effects of a broken home. There is no substitute for a strong mother and a great father.”

Of the archer Salvador Ramos, he said, “He will be eternally cursed to burn in the fires of hell.”

After criticizing left-wing politicians for what he called “highly divisive” rhetoric over gun laws in America after the shooting, Mr Trump continued to call for teachers to be armed.

“The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” he said.

“Our schools must be the only most difficult goal in our country,” he said.

The 75-year-old continued to repeat the false claim that the 2019 presidential election was rigged.

Police said on Friday that a “wrong decision” had been made not to break into the classroom earlier, as the attack took place earlier in the week.

Nearly 20 police officers were in the hallway outside the classroom for more than 45 minutes before U.S. border patrols used a master key to open the locked door. After they shot the 18-year-old shooter inside.

Texas Public Safety Director Stephen McCro told a news conference that the commander had suggested that the shooter was barricaded inside and that the shooter’s situation was no longer active.
