The streets of Morden looked more like rivers on Saturday morning, and about fifty homes received evacuation notices after a severe flood in alien areas hit the city at night.
“We’ve had a significant amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours, which, along with the rest of the lows in Colorado we had last weekend, is causing a lot of runoff in the watershed,” said Mordon Mayor Brandon Burley.
“There’s a significant bottleneck on the Park Hill Street Bridge, which is actually just a gutter, so that’s the problem right now. The water flows about two and a half feet above this road.

Burley says evacuation notices were served on homes on the west side of Dead Horse Creek because last week’s floods had already caused a bridge to collapse.
Although they have already built a temporary road, Burley says it is deteriorating, which has led to fears that residents may remain stranded.
“Significant efforts are being made to collect sandbags, and if (residents) need urgent services, they can be provided,” Burley said, adding that displaced people must make their way to the Access Event Center. -D Gilmour St.), which has been transferred to an emergency center.
By 1:30 p.m., the city announced on social media that a local state of emergency had been declared, “to allow for the necessary action during this significant weather event.”
People living in the area say they have woken up from about a meter of water flowing through streets and yards, especially at the northern end of the city.
“The river is somehow narrowing here at the northern end of town and the bridge where we are, it’s a very big gutter bridge, so it supported the stream and the water went over the road,” resident Kelly Wyler said.

“You could see the water boiling from the rain canals. When you see this, my concern is, will the water go up and through the sewers of the houses?
In addition to the uncertainty, Mackenzie says there is a lot of snow that has not yet melted and the rain continues to fall.
A statement posted on the city’s website said the Southern Emergency Response Committee had opened an emergency center in the city and people were urged to observe barricades “designed to block access to potentially dangerous areas.”

“The most important thing is to stay safe. It’s fun to go watch crazy water, but we don’t have to have water rescue on top of everything else that’s happening right now, “Burley said.

Northeast of Morden, 78 homes in the rural municipality of Richot received evacuation notices and eight chose to leave.
People who have chosen to stay are currently locked in their properties as high water levels continue to cover the back roads in some parts of the RM.

Some residents in the area told Global News that they were not worried about severe flooding because of the dikes built around their properties.
In terms of the amount of water around their properties, they have not seen anything like it since 2009.
