Drake and The Weeknd are two of the biggest artists… EVERRR, and they just happen to both be from Toronto — and Drake is celebrating it before a milestone for his friend.
The Weeknd played a huge hometown show Friday night at the Rogers Centre, and Drizzy got a little emotional … reminiscing about listening to the Weeknd’s music before he was a Billboard-smashing superstar.
He thanked OVO headliner Oliver El-Khatib for getting him back on the day and including the stadium show for Abel’s After Hours til Dawn tour… which was postponed several times during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Weeknd was literally instrumental in the success of Drake’s 2011 breakthrough album Take Care, where he worked on several tracks before bursting onto the commercial scene himself a few years later.
Earlier this year, both Drizzy and the Weeknd signed new record deals with Universal Music Group that were rumored to rival NBA contracts in terms of cash.
Don’t be surprised if the Weeknd brings Drizzy on stage tonight. Since he’s in town, you should probably expect him! By the way, there are still spots left for him … if you’re in Six.
They have another collaboration coming up … their last official duet was way back in 2013.
