Vernon RCMP had a busy long weekend.
While police responded to 310 calls for service between Thursday afternoon and midnight Sunday, they reported a well-behaved crowd at the Funtastic softball tournament and music festival.
“Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officers maintained a uniformed presence at the event throughout the weekend. We are happy to report that we have not encountered any significant issues,” said spokesman Const. Chris Terlesky.
But they were continued to jump elsewhere.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a reported assault in Justice Park, where investigators found a victim who had been struck in the head with a blunt object.
The 24-year-old intoxicated man was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Around 2:45 a.m. Saturday, a drunken street fight broke out in the 2900 block of 29th Avenue.
“During the standoff, one person suffered minor injuries after allegedly being hit with an improvised weapon,” Terleski said.
The incident remains under investigation.
At around 3am on Sunday, a drunk man caused a disturbance at a campsite on Kildonan Avenue in Enderby. The 34-year-old man was taken into custody and later released without charge after sobering up.
Around 7 a.m. Sunday, staff at a business on the 800 block of Waddington Drive broke their break and sprung into action.
A man and a woman were trying to steal tools and other items.
A witness tracked the suspects as they fled and informed police of their location.
The suspects abandoned their vehicle near the intersection of Highway 97 and Pleasant Valley Road and left on foot, but were quickly found by police dog Jagger while hiding in some bushes.
A 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been arrested and face a number of potential charges.
