U.S. marshals have announced the arrest of three men in connection with the death of 17-year-old Ethan Leaming in a school parking lot in Akron on June 2.
Deshon Stafford Jr., 20, Tyler Stafford, 19, and Donovon Jones, 21, were arrested Saturday morning by a task force for violent fugitives from U.S. marshals in northern Ohio and Akron police in two separate apartment buildings.
“I am happy to announce that Akron Police Department has made several arrests today in connection with the death of Ethan Leaming,” Akron Police Chief Stephen Mylet said in a press release. “We thank members of the community for their support, which helped investigators during this investigation.”

Leaming was brutally beaten to death at about 10:46 p.m. near the basketball courts at I Promise School in Akron. Officials said the teenager died of a blunt force trauma to his head after he allegedly got into a fight with a water pistol. Authorities say Leaming was lying on the ground in the parking lot when police arrived. They were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead on the spot.

Police said that at the time of the incident, one or more residents of [Liming]The vehicle was moving around the area, firing SPLATRBALL Water Bead Blaster at objects and possibly unsuspecting people, “the statement said.
They then set off in the direction of the basketball courts, where a group of teenagers “aimed at or approached the subjects on the court and fired a gel soft rifle at them.” These actions seemingly provoked the dispute.

At a news conference on June 8, Milet said that at least two people in Leaming’s car got out and started shooting at four people who were playing basketball on the courts. Milet said the group fled before everyone gathered at Leaming’s car, where Leaming was eventually killed.
The water pistol was found at the scene and was included as evidence in the declaration.

Police offered a reward of up to $ 30,000 for information about Leaming’s June 9 killers.
“Ethan Leaming was a young man with a full life ahead of him, and this bright future was meaninglessly taken away from him in the most brutal ways,” Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said in an original press release.

Leaming’s father, Bill, recalled his son as a loving and charitable man with a “bright future” in front of him in an interview with Fox News Digital. Leaming’s father said Leaming intended to become a lawyer as the high school began preparing for his college visits.
