Conservative MP Ed Fast said it was “insolvent” to work as a financial critic for the Conservative Party of Canada, so he asked to be relieved of his duties.
In an interview with Power Play on CTV News Channel on Thursday, Fast said that the very issues he is required to speak about, such as monetary and fiscal policy, are topics that “one of the candidates for leadership” believes should not to comment because it may contradict their positions in campaign policy.
“I was at a time when not only could I not do my job in the committee as I should have, but I could not speak in public as openly as I probably should,” he said.
Fast, a BC MP, is co-chair of former Quebec Prime Minister Jean Charest’s leadership campaign.
On Wednesday night, interim party leader Candice Bergen issued a statement noting that Fast would “step down” as a financial critic.
Later in the interview, Fast spoke out against Leader’s attacks on Bank of Canada.
“We are now witnessing political interference or an attempt at political interference in our central bank, which is supposed to be free from this interference. He is supposed to be independent, “he said.
