Emma Raducanu is falling apart to leave the French Open in a desperate way

From Uche Amako

Hello and welcome to the coverage of the match of Emma Raducanu in the second round of the French Open against the Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich.

Raducanu demonstrated his tenacity and determination on Monday by defeating 17-year-old Czech qualifier Linda Noskova.

“Honestly, I have no expectations of myself. You know I’m really happy to be able to compete here after Rome,” she said.

“I really fought hard to be here in the second round and I look forward to trying to stay as long as possible.

Today, she faces Sasnovich, from whom she lost convincingly in Indian Wells last year in her first tournament since winning the US Open.

Injuries have interrupted Raducanu’s season so far, but she goes to the gym in an attempt to increase her endurance.

“I think it’s definitely getting better. One thing I was doing earlier this week and all last week, I was doing a lot in the gym.

“Long before training, after training, I just keep all the muscles working. This is something I probably haven’t done before, I’ve trained in tournaments.

“Yes, I’m quite happy with how I was there physically and I feel really good, to be honest.

“I think players definitely know more about me and would see me play more until last year, maybe if I was just a random qualifier, they wouldn’t do so much research [in] or looked at me playing.

“To counteract the fact that I always strive to improve in all aspects. I think one was definitely physical, just so I could endure the longer points, especially on the glue courts.

“Also just adding elements of unpredictability in any way.”
