England Player Ratings vs. Hungary: Kane Quiet, Rice Fights, But Bowen Lively on Debut

Entering the game, the Hungarians had not beaten England in their last 15 attempts at the 1962 World Cup, but won a victory at the Pushka Arena.

Dominic Shoboslay scored the only goal of the match, shooting a penalty in the second half after Reese James was judged to have knocked down Adam Nagy.

England struggled all night to continue, and Hungary was ultimately a worthy winner, with Gareth Southgate’s team now having to reunite before heading to Germany on Tuesday.

Jordan Pickford 6

He was busier than the two goalkeepers and was almost caught off guard in the first half. He could not come close to Shoboslay’s excellent penalty.

Kyle Walker 7

He had a good three-pointer and you can see why Southgate likes to use him in this role. Offers pace and experience. The defense seemed weaker when he came out after school.

Connor Cody 6

He had a rare chance to start at the heart of the defense and was solid enough. He was close to grabbing a late goal with a free kick.

Harry Maguire 5

After a difficult season, this was a good performance by the Manchester United captain. It started steadily, but dropped towards the end.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

He hit a few nice diagonal balls to Justin from the other flank, which was often England’s best attacking weapon in the first half. Well connected with Bowen.

Declan Rice 6

He was in charge of West Ham this season, but had a tough game here. Things could not go well in the middle of the park.

Jude Bellingham 6

He is still only 18 and it really seems that Southgate should stay with him for the future. He showed flashes of brilliance and was one of those who tried to bring England together to find an equalizer.

James Justin 6

In the end, he lasted only 45 minutes and seemed to be struggling from the middle of the first half. He had some bright moments and was solid in his debut.

Jarod Bowen 7

One of England’s best players on a frustrating night full of running and creating problems in the beginning. Make your own hopes to keep a place on the team without harm.

Harry Kane 5

A rare weekend night for the captain chasing Wayne Rooney’s goal record. He had an early look at the goal, but he was also quiet. He missed a great chance to score the Grillish ball while England chased an equalizer.

Mason Mount 6

Strangely good moment of skill in the first 15 minutes, but he was not as engaged as he would have liked. Departed after school.

Substitutions

Bucaio Saka (Justin 45 ‘) 6

At the break she started well, making a good save from the goalkeeper of Hungary. It may start in Germany on Tuesday.

Rhys James (Alexander-Arnold 62 ‘) 5

He gave a penalty only moments after entering as a substitute. It looked like a rough call, but VAR didn’t intervene.

Jack Grillish (Mount 62 ‘) 6

Bright tried to pass the ball to Hungary. I suspect it could start in Germany when England seems devoid of creativity.

John Stones (Walker 62 ‘) 5

At the heart of the defense, England also looked torn during his time on the pitch.

Calvin Phillips (Cody 78 ‘) N / A
