Dozens of friends, family and strangers gathered in Spryfield, NS, on Saturday to look for a teenager who went missing three months ago.
“Three months of torture,” said Theresa Gray, Devon Marsman’s mother.
Gray said her son was last seen with another 16-year-old and his older cousin in Spryfield.
He was last heard from the week of February 21 and was reported missing by police on March 4.
On Saturday, many responded to a call on Facebook to look for clues in the streets, forests or the area around Lake Roach.
“Trying to get some people together and do something is better than doing nothing. We just want to help this family and try to bring Devon home,” said Terne Murphy, one of the search organizers.
“We need to find him or help the family be locked up because it’s rude,” said Gisele Cunningham, one of the seekers.
Gray has traveled the region in search of her son.
“I’ve been to Yarmouth and Digby. I was in Windsor. I’ve been to Cantville and Wolfville. “I’ve been to Bridgewater and Shelburn,” she said. “I was in Fredericton, Moncton. I just don’t know where to put another leaflet.
During the investigation, the Halifax regional police said there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
When CTV News asked police if they knew where Marsman was, Cst. John McLeod said he could not comment on details of the investigation.
“What I can tell you is that our investigators are doing their best. They are working with the family and connecting with everyone they can to try to find Devon,” Cst said. McLeod.
A recently organized Facebook group has members who print and put up posters to highlight his disappearance.
“We keep pushing the number of Crime Stoppers. We keep pushing the Crime Stoppers page,” said Lisa Fenton of Wings of Mercy, an organization that helps support families whose children are missing. “We want people to give information to the police. We know there are people in the community who know information.”
Gray adds that her son’s bank account has not been used and his social media accounts are silent.
“It’s almost like in my heart, someone’s holding him or he’s on drugs, because I know honestly that if he had access to a phone, I know he’d call me,” Gray said. “Because we’re super close and there must be a reason he doesn’t keep in touch.”
Marsman is described as an African youth from Nova Scotia, approximately 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, with blue-green eyes and short dark hair.
Halifax police are asking Devon or anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
