Fans are asking Sega to postpone Sonic Frontiers after 2 dirty trailers

Well, he works for the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Will it help the Sonic Frontiers?

Over the weekend, after Sonic Frontiers unveiled its first gameplay, the hashtag #DelaySonicFrontiers was up to date on social media. Similar to the reaction on social media that followed the unveiling of Sonic’s original 2020 action film design, fans are massively begging Sega and Sonic Team to return to the drawing board.

After a seven-minute gameplay video for Sonic Frontiers (via IGN), fans recorded their best reactions, calling for an empty, open world that doesn’t communicate Sonic’s speed, as well as the linear levels of his 3D platforming era. The puzzles were thoughtful and boring, and an additional seven-minute battle trailer did not excite the audience.

A Polygon AirPower commentator summed up the fading consensus of most Sonic fans over the weekend: “It’s great to see the man who did these Mario demonstrations at Unreal Engine start working.”

Requests to apply the brakes soon arrived. Some were conciliatory:

Sega, from your fans who love this series, please #DelaySonicFrontiers.

We don’t need to play this year. Please focus on making this game the best you can.

Instead of doing this practice that almost killed the franchise.

Others were more direct and open about their intentions:

Sonic Frontiers looks like an asshole If we can harass a company to fix a rotten movie, we can harass Sega to fix their nasty game #DelaySonicFrontiers

Others said pressure from fans to review Ugly Sonic, unveiled in early 2019, not only saved the film, but made it a rare critical and commercial success for video game adaptation. Sonic the Hedgehog had the best opening weekend of any video game movie, received a sequel that premiered in April, and a third film plus a Knockles spinoff on Paramount Plus.

Sonic Frontiers, the first open-air title of the 30-year-old franchise, was first unveiled with a pre-screened movie trailer during The Game Awards 2021 in December. The game is expected in the holiday quarter of 2022 and will launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
