A father-of-six who was killed while trying to save others during a spate of shootings on Skye was a trained foot soldier with the Queen’s Highlanders.
John McKinnon, 47, died at his home in the fishing village of Teangu, on the Slate Peninsula, after being shot with a shotgun. He is believed to have tried to take the weapon from the attacker on Wednesday morning.
The shooting took place half an hour after a woman, identified locally as Rowina MacDonald, 32, suffered suspected stab wounds in the nearby village of Tarskawaig at around 9am. She was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow in a serious condition.
