Zoe Lofgren: Pat Cipollone’s January 6 Commission Testimony Doesn’t Contradict Previous Witnesses
Former White House strategist Steve Bannon will testify before the committee on Jan. 6, Rep. Zoe Lofgren revealed.
Mr. Bannon’s lawyer has written to the committee saying he is willing to drop his objection to the committee’s subpoena, Ms. Lofgren told CNN on Sunday.
Mr. Bannon’s testimony is likely to take place behind closed doors for several hours, as has been the case with previous witnesses subpoenaed by the committee, according to a Jan. 6 House committee member.
The Jan. 6 commission is scheduled to hold two more hearings this week. It’s not yet clear whether Thursday’s hearing will be held during the day or will be the last prime-time closing hearing, which lawmakers have promised to wrap up the hearings.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump attacked the executives of Twitter and Facebook in an interview for the new documentary Unprecedented.
Mr Trump was banned from social media sites in the days following the riot at the US Capitol in January 2021 for inciting the deadly attack.
He told director Alex Holder it was “a shame” he had been kicked off the platforms when leaders from authoritarian countries still had access to them.
“They allow other people to participate who are terrible people. I’m not a terrible person,” he said.

Donald Trump refused to use the word vaccine when talking about Covid-19 at a Republican rally in Alaska on Saturday night.
“We’ve done so much in terms of therapy and a word that I’m not allowed to mention, but I’m still proud of that word,” he told supporters in Anchorage.
“We did this in nine months and it should have taken five to 12 years, no one else could have done it, but I don’t mention it to my people.”

Mary Trump says her uncle is likely “terrified” by developments in the congressional committee investigating the events of January 6, when the then-president called on an armed mob of supporters to thwart the official confirmation of Joe Biden’s victory, telling them to “fight like hell”.
Mrs Trump, a psychologist who has been an outspoken critic of the former president, was asked by MSNBC what she thought her former relative felt, as Pat Cipollone, the former White House adviser, became the latest senior figure interviewed by the group.
“To say Donald is terrible is accurate, but it’s also an understatement,” Mrs Trump responded.
“I think this might be the first time in his entire life that even he can’t deny the walls closing in. The amount of evidence we’re seeing coming out of these committee hearings is overwhelming.”

The leader of the far-right Oath Keepers militia wants to testify before the commission from January 6, as long as he is allowed to do so live and in person.
Stewart Rhodes, who is in jail awaiting trial on seditious conspiracy charges for his role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol, wants to “stand” in court, his attorney, James Bright, told Politico.
Meanwhile, on Friday the Department of Justice released new details of the extensive planning it claims Mr Rhodes and eight other members of the Oath Keepers carried out in the run-up to the January 6 riot.
