Two families have been displaced, but no one was injured in a fire at a city complex in London, Ont. Sunday morning.
The crews were called to 555 Lawson Road before noon.
“Initial reports were that someone had difficulty being removed due to mobility problems,” said Colin Shewell, chief of the London Fire Brigade (LFD).
However, when the crew arrived, the woman managed to get out of the house, and firefighters quickly put out the fire.
“We have a fire that got into the attic and there is a small migration of smoke in the next unit,” Shewell said.
More than 20 firefighters and four motor teams were on site, as was the truck.
“There were two 20-kilogram tanks of propane, which we vented and the crews managed to cool them,” says Shewell.
“It was definitely a big danger for our crews immediately with a working fire outside, so we congratulate them on their quick action. That could have been a lot worse. “
The owners of the apartment, as well as those in the neighboring apartment, have been relocated, but in the meantime they both have apartments.
A fire inspector is on site and the teams continue to work in the back of the home.
“It’s just to make sure the smoke that still comes out here doesn’t ignite again,” Shewell said.
“Our crews are currently monitoring the air levels in the neighboring town houses, as well as looking for extensions in the attic area. Fortunately, there was no extension and we have zero parts per million of carbon dioxide or other gas in the neighboring blocks.
