Firefighter killed, 8 others injured in New York fire: sources

A city firefighter was killed and eight other brave were injured in a wildfire at a home in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, sources told The Post.

The fatally injured firefighter – the 31-year-old son of a retired smoker – has separated from his comrades and may have received a cardiac arrest at 10826 Avenue N, where he was found, sources said. Other firefighters jumped out of a second-floor window during the blaze, sources said.

The dying firefighter was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, sources said.

A FDNY spokesman said firefighters were sent to the two-story home at 1:39 p.m., with more than 100 brave people working on the scene as the fire was raised to a third alarm shortly after 2 p.m.

The department did not immediately confirm the fatal.

The wounded civilian received medical assistance on the spot and refused additional medical assistance, FDNY reported.

The injured firefighters were taken to Staten Island University Hospital after burns, sources said.

The last city firefighter to die in the line of duty was Jesse Gerhard, 33, in February.
