The fire skimmer falls

A water bomber involved in firefighting efforts in the Kootenays made an emergency landing Tuesday.
BC Wildfire Service Executive Director Ian Meyer issued a statement late Tuesday regarding the landing at the Southeast Fire Centre.
Meyer said the contracted Conair 802 Air Tractor Fireboss Skimmer suffered engine failure during operations at the Connell Ridge wildfire, near Cranbrook.
He said the forced landing was successful and the pilot was taken to hospital for medical examination.
The statement said the British Columbia Wildfire Service is providing all possible assistance to the pilot and Conair, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
The Connell Ridge wildfire is currently at about 150 hectares.
