Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday that the White House had lied about changes to his country’s policy against COVID-19 and that the media had largely chosen to ignore it.
The Republican was in Callahan, north of Jacksonville, when asked about a debate on vaccines on Friday and comments from the Biden administration last week that he had changed course and ordered vaccines for young children.
“The White House is lying about it, surprise. It’s not surprising that the White House will lie, it’s definitely not surprising that the legacy media will spread the lie because they do,” DeSantis said. “The state of Florida, they came out with an article saying that the state of Florida did not order, and the Department of Health did not order mRNA samples for babies. Yes, we didn’t. We recommend that you do not do this.
“We will not have any programs in which we try to hit the mRNA of 6-month-old babies,” he added. “It’s just the reality. I think what they thought was going to happen is that we’re going to be ashamed of it.”

On Friday, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters that Florida had reversed the course and allowed healthcare providers to order mRNA vaccines for children under six months to five years old.
“Although Governor DeSantis has reversed course and is now ordering vaccines, we will pull every lever to get pediatricians to vaccinate Florida as soon as possible,” she told McClachie. “This is an encouraging first step, and we call on the state to order vaccines for its state and local health departments so that all parents in Florida have the opportunity to vaccinate their children.
Earlier this week, Florida General Surgeon Dr. Joseph Ladapo said he disagreed with the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to administer COVID vaccines to children under 5.
On Monday, DeSantis said the state would not order any mRNA vaccines for children.

“It’s always been that way, we haven’t ordered it yet, we won’t order it,” he said. “What they say is because practitioners and hospitals can order it, we’ve somehow turned it around. I said from the beginning that we could do it. We don’t have the power to prevent it, and quite frankly, if someone wants to make a different decision, I would just warn people to look at the actual data from the clinical trial.
