Charles Leclerc was a hero of Monaco’s hometown when he took gender position for the world’s most famous race.

Born and raised in the principality, Ferrari’s husband made no mistake in his super-charged trip to first place.

With 13 of the last 20 winners coming from the lofty position in which the 24-year-old will start Sunday’s race, he may finally lose his mind in Monte Carlo.

The story of a Monegasque on these streets with tights is a story of accidents, including a crash after determining the pole time last year and, ridiculously, boarding Niki Lauda’s old Ferrari two weeks ago.

Then Carlos Sainz of Ferrari pushed Perez. A red flag was waved for the remaining 30 seconds of the planned run.

The session ended there and then. Science was second fastest and Perez third.

Defending champion and championship leader Max Verstappen was only fourth best. The Dutchman has not had the right pace all weekend.

Lewis Hamilton was eighth best for Mercedes, and his teammate George Russell was sixth. oh

Lando Norris ranks as an excellent fifth for McLaren, although he struggles with tonsillitis.
