Ford will make an announcement in Stratford today

Premier Doug Ford will make an announcement in Stratford on Wednesday morning.

Ford will join Minister for Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton for the announcement.

It is not clear what the message will be about.

It’s the first time Ford has spoken to the media since University Health Network announced yesterday that three intensive care units at Toronto General Hospital are at or near capacity.

A UHN spokesperson confirmed to CP24 that the hospital is under a “critical care bed alert” affecting their medical-surgical, coronary and cardiovascular intensive care units.

The announcement comes amid a growing number of hospital emergency and intensive care unit closures across the province due to staff shortages.

The Ontario Nurses Association says about 25 hospitals were forced to make changes over the long weekend due to staff shortages.

As Ontario deals with the seventh wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, more health care workers are falling ill and having to self-isolate at home, take time off or leave their jobs.
