Former Celtic B player blamed for Glasgow teenager Aidan Pilkington

A former Celtic B player has been charged in connection with the alleged death of a teenager from Glasgow.

Aiden Pilkington was knocked down by a car on Crow Road in the city around 12.20 am on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

The 18-year-old McDonald’s worker was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but tragically died later.

A major police investigation has begun with the then-teen soccer star, who was arrested by officials a few days later.

A car allegedly involved in the fatal collision was also seized.

The footballer was fired by officials pending further investigation.

His profile remained on the club’s website, listing him as part of their reserve team at the time.

However, it is understood that he no longer plays for the country of Parkhead and his profile has been removed from the site.

Scottish police have already confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been blamed for the incident, and the report has been submitted to the fiscal prosecutor’s office.

Dozens of sincere tributes were poured out by the devastated friends of Aidan, who was due to start at Dundee University just days after his tragic death.

In a heartbreaking statement issued at the time, his family said: “Aiden was valued by his family and much loved and respected by his friends and community.

“Aiden left Hindland High School in the summer and would move to Dundee next Saturday to attend Dundee University.

“He created a bright future for himself and was really looking forward to these opportunities and challenges. It is very cruel that his life was stolen in this way.

“The family would like to thank friends, especially Aidan’s friends and the wider community, for their love, support and kindness.

Confirming the latest update, a statement from Scottish Police said: “We can confirm that a 20-year-old man has been charged in a fatal road accident on Crow Road around 12.20am on Saturday 11 September 2021.

“A report will be sent to the fiscal prosecutor’s office.”
