Former Fox political editor says he will testify at committee’s January 6 hearing

“I was called to testify before this committee and I will do so on Monday,” he told NewsNation, where he is employed as a political editor.

Fox fired Stirewalt in January 2021 after a right-wing reaction to the network – rightly – calling Arizona after incumbent President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Steerwalt wrote in a Los Angeles Times article after his dismissal that he refused to believe of the election results among many supporters of former President Donald Trump is “a tragic consequence of the information malnutrition that affects the nation so much.”

Speaking to NewsNation, Stirewalt said: “I am not able to tell you what my testimony will be about.”

He continued, “I was asked to testify and I have to go.”

He criticized both parties for politicizing the January 6 investigation, adding: “These two parties fucked him from pen to post.”

When asked to comment on his statements, Stirewalt told CNN: “I will leave my comments on the air to speak for themselves.”

The House of Representatives Election Commission, which is investigating the US Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, held its first prime time hearing on Thursday night, detailing the findings of the committee’s investigation and releasing a new video of members’ closed-door testimony. of Trump’s team and depicting the violence at the Capitol.

Thursday’s hearing was the first in a series this month that will highlight findings from the commission’s investigation, which includes interviews with more than 1,000 people about how Trump and his team tried to overturn the 2020 election results on various fronts.

As the hearing aired Thursday, Fox – who did not join other major networks in showing the live hearing – downplayed the Jan. 6 violence and dismissed revelations about Trump’s behavior. The network also ignores its own role in promoting false allegations of pre-riot elections and the commission’s publication of personal messages between some of its hosts.
